Taking over from the Atlantic crossing, the Grandpa Rowers invite the younger generations to join them in carrying humanist values high.

Rowing for the climate over 16,000 kilometers from Fort-de-France to Nouméa, from October/November 2024 to July/August 2025.

The conditions of the crossing

The smallness of the boat does not allow to carry all the food supplies, hence the need to make stopovers:

► the first stopover in Panama Ciudad after about 40 days of navigation including the passage of the canal
► the second stopover in Tahiti (first possible land in the Polynesian part) after 9000 km as planned in four and a half months at sea.

In case the journey is lengthened due to weather conditions or lack of food supplies, rerouting to an intermediate stopover in the Marquesas Islands.

The weather forecast is what will direct the decisions at the beginning of each of the 3 legs of the journey.
The period between the end of the hurricanes in the Caribbean Sea and the beginning of the cyclones in the South Pacific (10 months apart according to the weather forecast) leaves little time to linger over the stopovers which will have to be carried out in a few days (3 to 5): contacts with the local actors and animations in favor of the climate, cleaning and repairing the boat if necessary, food supplies, handover between crews.

Each crew member takes 3 roles on board:
► rowing 12 hours a day in 2-hour periods
► hold one of the main functions on board
► assist one of the main functions in case of failure

Each crew member is trained in all their roles during preparation for the journey.

It will be done in 3 legs interspersed with 2 short stopovers

A distance never achieved in rowing, from 16 000 to 18 000 km depending on the sea conditions and the meteorological episodes encountered.
